Tampa Bay Downs and the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Association agreed to add two more Florida Sire Stakes races to the track’s upcoming 2017-18 season.

Tampa Bay adds two Florida Sire Stakes to schedule (since May, 2017), Tampa Bay Downs will host a pair of Florida Sire Stakes for the first time at its 2017-18 meet, with each seven-furlong race worth $125,000 and open to 3-year-olds sired by eligible Florida stallions.

Always Dreaming adds to Pletcher’s Kentucky Derby arsenal by winning Florida Derby (since Apr, 2017), Winless in two starts at 2, Always Dreaming went to Tampa Bay Downs to win his maiden by 11 1/2 lengths on Jan. 25 after which Pletcher opted to bypass the Fountain of Youth to send out Always Dreaming to beat a weak entry-level allowance field going  . Florida Weathers Hurricane, Gulfstream to Race Sept. 16 (since Sep, 2017), BloodHorse.com (press release) (registration) (blog) 13, and racing Sept. 16. Roof damage to barns was reported at Tampa Bay Downs, which currently is not racing; and the Palm Meadows training center had tree damage. Barns at Gulfstream Park West also held up well, sustaining minor gutter damage.
