Indiana high school coach suspended after reposting old photo of himself in blackface on Halloween

Indiana high school coach Richard Gist has been suspended following his decision to repost an old photo of himself donning blackface while dressed up as Bob Marley for Halloween,’as part of a discussion on whether blackface is offensive’and later as his profile photo (pictured) on January 23

Richard Gist, an assistant football and track coach as well as substitute teacher at Brown County High School in Nashville, Indiana, shared the photo in a comment on another person’s post on January 23, asking, ‘What’s wrong with it?”

When told in the thread by a self-described black man that it was offensive, Gist pressed as to why, and was told: ‘If you think that it’s okay then why don’t you use it as your profile picture for a while? I’m sure you will get the answer to the question you seek. It is racist and it is offensive to most people of African origin.’
