The Sunshine Skyway 3The Bob Graham Sunshine Skyway Bridge – considered the “flag bridge” of Florida.

In third position on the Top 10 Bridges in the World, by the Travel Channel,  ranked after Japan’s Akashi Kaikyo Bridge and the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California.

Because of its height above the emerald-green Gulf waters, length of continuous travel, location in a warm-weather state, and modern architectural design, it is a popular spot for filming automobile commercials.

The bridge was opened to traffic on April 20, 1987. It is part of Interstate-275 (SR 93) and US highway, 19 (SR 55), connecting St. Petersburg in Pinellas County and Terra Ceia in Manatee County, passing over Hillsborough County waters.

The Sunshine Skyway Bridge is as long as Mount Everest is high, stretching for 4 miles. It’s the 5th-largest cable-stayed bridge in the world and features sunny yellow steel cables.
