Just 16 teams remain in the NCAA volleyball tournament and only two wins stand between each team and a berth into the national semifinals in Minneapolis.

The four top seeds ‘ Stanford, Minnesota, Illinois and ‘BYU ‘ each won their first two games convincingly, so the regional sites will be on each of their respective campuses. The regional semifinals begin on Friday, Dec. 7 with regional finals being played on Saturday, Dec. 8.

The Cardinal and the three other national semifinal teams from the past season also advanced into the regional round, including reigning national champ Nebraska and national runner-up Florida. Penn State is the other remaining 2017 semifinalist.

BYU women’s volleyball to host first four rounds in NCAA tournament as No. 4 seed

The BYU women’s volleyball team reacts during the Selection Show where the Cougars were named the No. 4 seed when’the 2018 NCAA Tournament field was announced on Nov. 25, 2018.

BYU senior outside hitter Roni Jones-Perry talks to reporters after the Cougars were named the No. 4 seed when the 2018 NCAA Tournament field was announced on Nov. 25, 2018.

The BYU women’s volleyball team won the West Coast Conference and had been ranked No. 1 for much of the 2018 season, so the Cougars knew they had a spot in the 2018 NCAA tournament.

But whether the selection committee would consider their r’sum’ strong enough to warrant a Top 4 seed and the honor of hosting the first four rounds of the tournament was still an unknown.

Navy volleyball slated to face Michigan in first round of NCAA tournament

Senior Sydney Shearn frolicked around her Navy volleyball teammates, clustered around red-cloth tables on the upper level at the Federal House in downtown Annapolis. Gathering together for an NCAA bracket unveiling is a tradition scores of programs across America have done time and time again.

Shearn asked each of her teammates what they loved about their time in Navy volleyball. They were close friends who, had the Mids not toppled the defending champion American in the Patriot League final, would have had no more volleyball to play ‘ some for a season, some forever.

Battle 4 Atlantis 2018: Bracket, schedule, scores, and TV/live stream info

The ‘Hoos outlasted No. 25 Wisconsin 53-46 on Friday afternoon in the title game. It caps a three-game run for Virginia that also included victories over Middle Tennessee State and Dayton.

De’Andre Hunter was the star for Virginia throughout the tournament. He put up a team-high 20 points and nine rebounds on 8-of-14 shooting from the field against the Badgers. Hunter was ACC Sixth Man of the Year last season and missed Virginia’s historic NCAA Tournament loss to 16th-seeded UMBC with a broken hand. He is a potential lottery pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.

The Badgers acquitted themselves well even with the loss to Virginia in the final. Wisconsin beat Florida and Oklahoma to get to the title game, proving that they’re back after missing the big dance last season. Greg Gard’s team is much healthier than last season, with guards D’Mitric Trice and Kobe King giving Wisconsin reason for optimism as the long goes along.
