Bradenton Police Sergeant Leonel Marines asked the couple if he could speak to their adult daughter. As Bradenton Police Chief Melanie Bevan revealed to reporters last Thursday, Marines had briefly encountered the young woman earlier that day in a parking lot, then followed her home.

If the election were held today ‘ and if the public polling is right ‘ Democrat Andrew Gillum will probably be the first African-American governor in the state’s history. But those are two big ifs. This election, like the Senate race and top-of-the-ticket races before it, is going to be close.

HUH? ‘ When we first reported that a Republican activist and donor had used the N-word, Gov. Rick Scott’s Senate campaign wasted little time to announce it would refuse the $1,000 he gave and donate it to charity. But former Rep. Ron DeSantis’ gubernatorial campaign decided it would keep the money. By our count, factoring in money that Steve Alembik and his company have given to DeSantis and two political committees that have backed him, that’s about $9,250 outstanding (prior to the controversy, DeSantis had previously refunded about $11,000, but Alembik said it’s because he asked for the money back over an accounting issue). Had DeSantis given up the money yesterday, he would likely have had second-day headlines that said he was distancing himself from the donor, or disavowing him. Instead, this is what he got …
