Sugar Sand Festival comes to life on Clearwater Beach

CLEARWATER BEACH, Fla (WFLA) – It may sound impossible, but for the next two weeks there will be a shortage of sugar sand along Clearwater Beach.

This phenomenon happens every year as sculptors from around the world descend upon Clearwater Beach and turn a thousand tons of sugar sand into colossal creations as part of the Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival.

This year‘s theme is Sea America. In addition to checking out the sand sculptures, visitors will have the opportunity to experience everything from a VIP Lounge, movies on the beach, concerts and a sand sculpting class from one of the eleven world-class sculptors.

The Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival will celebrate with fireworks Saturday and Sunday nights. The festival runs through Sunday April 22.
