STATEWIDE ‘ The number of positive coronavirus cases in Florida eclipsed 1,000 on Sunday, while TSA says a fourth Orlando worker has tested positive.

As of Sunday evening, there were 1,007 COVID-19 cases, with 937 Florida residents and another 70 people who are nonresidents of Florida but have been tested and isolated here. Of more than 11,000 coronavirus tests administered, 933 are pending.

According to Florida Health Department data released Sunday night, it’s not only older people who have been exposed the coronavirus.

The newest string of closures and cancellations: Florida’s campgrounds

Officials announced Tuesday that all camping accommodations at Florida state parks will be canceled for 60 days after Friday night. Parks will still be open during the day, but now with reduced hours ‘ from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The state park system said in a release that it will honor existing camping reservations that begin on March 18, but those individuals must arrive at campgrounds prior to 5 p.m. on Wednesday. After Wednesday, existing reservations will be canceled and refunded.

State parks will join Honeymoon Island and Fort DeSoto in its decision to not allow new reservations.

Florida coronavirus update: Broward closing non-essential businesses

As Florida reported more than 1,000 cases of the new coronavirus on Sunday, Broward County is ordering the closing of all non-essential businesses.

Businesses that people depend on ‘ grocery stores and pharmacies; healthcare providers, including doctor’s offices and urgent care centers; banks and gas stations ‘ are considered essential, according to the county’s order, and are directed to remain open.

The restrictions. announced by Broward Mayor Dale Holness on Sunday evening at the county’s Emergency Operations Center, are similar to those imposed previously in Miami-Dade County.

Panama City Beach among last in Florida to close beaches

Panama City Beach officials voted Friday to close their beaches beginning at 7 p.m., becoming one of the last cities in Florida to shutter its shores amid the coronavirus pandemic after the governor refused to do so.

While Panama City Beach’s chamber of commerce declared Thursday that beaches there weren’t closed, and the town was “open for business,” many residents pushed back, prompting the city council to schedule an emergency meeting for Friday afternoon.
