Firestone to sponsor St. Pete IndyCar race through 2023

Bridgestone Americas Inc. has agreed to continue its role as title sponsor of the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg for three more years.

The new agreement continues a partnership that began in 2014 and maintains Firestone’s naming rights on the NTT IndyCar Series event through the 2023 season.

Financial terms were not disclosed. The contract extension was disclosed prior the start of practice for this weekend’s IndyCar race on the hybrid street/airport circuit in St. Petersburg ‘ an event delayed from mid-March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Green Savoree Racing Promotions, the St. Petersburg race organizer, called Firestone’s commitment to the sport and this event “unmatched” and said “it’s an honor to showcase one of the crown jewel events of the NTT IndyCar season each year on the streets of St. Pete with one of the most iconic brands in auto history.”

Newgarden tightens championship race ahead of IndyCar finale

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) ‘ Scott Dixon has controlled IndyCar’s title race since the start of this disrupted start-and-stop season. Reigning champion Josef Newgarden remained undeterred and slowed Dixon’s runaway rout.

The American has whittled 85 points off of Dixon’s lead and turned Sunday’s season finale into a championship-deciding event.

Newgarden is now 32 points behind Dixon in a bid to win back-to-back titles and IndyCar found 19,872 scoring scenarios that could determine the champion when the checkered flag falls in downtown St. Petersburg.

‘It was like 20,000 scenarios ‘ 1% of the scenarios means we can win the championship,’ Newgarden said. ‘You’re saying there’s a chance and that’s all we need.’

RipKurrent to back Kimball for Indy 500

Charlie Kimball will carry the colors of energy services company ripKurrent on his No.4 A.J. Foyt Racing Chevy for this year’s Indianapolis 500.

The Florida-based company will take over Kimball’s livery for the 104th running of the race, as well as appearing on the nose of his car throughout the season as an associate sponsor.

‘We are very excited to be partnered with A.J. Foyt Racing and Charlie Kimball for the 2020 season, and more specifically, the 104th Running of the Indianapolis 500,’ said Jade Culbertson, founder and president of ripKurrent, LLC.

‘After attending many Indy 500s as a native Hoosier, it will be surreal to think we have an entry with a world-class team in A.J. Foyt Racing and driver Charlie Kimball in the race. They have the knowledge, experience and skill to put the car in victory circle.

IndyCar at Gateway schedule for Saturday: How to watch, start times, live streaming info – NBC Sports

With the biggest race of the season finally in the record books after a three-month delay, the NTT IndyCar Series will start the second half of its season with a Saturday-Sunday doubleheader at new times for World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway.

After three consecutive Saturday night races on the 1.25-mile oval, Gateway will play host to two 200-lap (250-mile) afternoon races.

Scott Dixon won Saturday’s Race 1 and extended his points lead to 117 over defending series champion Josef Newgarden with six races remaining in the season.
