The 29th annual Florida Film Festival has arrived and with it the game of guessing which movie will go on to be a breakout star. In its nearly three decades of bringing original, undiscovered talent to Central Florida screens, the FFF has been the launchpad for star turns and major award winners. Here are 10 from the last 10 years that have gone on to make waves after giving FFF viewers a first look.

Director Debra Granik’s gritty story about a young girl in the Ozarks looking for her father made Jennifer Lawrence a household name and earned her first Oscar nomination, one of four the movie would garner. The film made its East Coast premiere at the festival.

Some flew high, some stumbled badly, and some are still waiting to show what they’re capable of. But demand for streaming video skyrocketed, and some rose to the occasion. Others did not. Here’s our take:

The company also made a superstar hire in new CMO Bozoma St. John, of Ghanaian descent. St. John first made a splash at Pepsi’s music unit, Beats and then Apple Music. Later, she was brought in as CMO to fix messes at Uber and Hollywood holding company Endeavor. By comparison, Netflix has no mess to clean up, but it now is courting a more global audience with an equally diverse array of programming. Count on St. John to shift the company’s $2 billion marketing budget to more emotional pitches that do more to build the overall Netflix brand amid many new competitors, rather than that of its monthly onslaught of new releases.

The power of good news – Mount Airy News

Then closer to home, when talking with others we hear about the unemployment problems, family problems, marriage issues, immorality issues along with the drug and alcohol epidemic that has attacked our society. We hear bad news after bad news. Occasionally television or newspapers will give us a nice human-interest story that will warm the heart, but they are very rare.

The devil has convinced so many that ‘good news’ is not interesting to people. He has deceived society into believing this lie so that we will not share the ‘good news’ of our Lord Jesus. One may ask, ‘Preacher, what is ‘good news’?’ Paul said it this way, ‘The gospel is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believes.’
