A bill passed in 2006 gave municipalities the right to issue permits to restaurants allowing pets in outdoor seating areas. Since then, restaurant owners have seen a surge in people testing the limits, passing their pets off as service animals and bringing their dogs inside.

No single incident prompted the state representative from Orlando to write House Bill 243, which would do just that, but dinner at an upscale Orlando restaurant was the dog hair that broke the representative’s back.

Bill proposes dog-petting while driving be made illegal in Florida

Driver Samantha Williams said, ‘It would be kind of hard because you still have to deal with them like a kid kind’of, so that’d be hard.’

In a AAA survey 52% of people said they have pet their dog while driving’29% admitted they were distracted by their animal.

The proposed legislation doesn’t just take aim at pets, it redefines distracted driving to include more than mobile devices.

State senator from South Florida proposes new home for capital

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. ‘ A state senator from South Florida has re-initiated the long-running debate about whether to move the state capital from Tallahassee.

Sen. Kevin Rader, D-Boca Raton, filed a bill Tuesday to study the possibility of moving the capital from its current location to central Florida.
