‘Oh, it was heartbreaking!’ Mann says. ‘We tried to be optimistic and hopeful and positive. But when it comes down to it, it’s the health and safety of our members that had to come first.’

The Community Concert Series was set to return next month with a new lineup of opera and classical-music acts’at Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall. It was the association’s second attempt at putting together the’2021 concert series.

They’d announced 2021’s musical acts for the first time in May, but then most of those acts canceled due to the pandemic. So the association scrambled and came up with five new acts to replace them.

Fans are understandably disappointed, Mann says.’We’ve had members who have been with us for 30 years, for 20 years or 10 years. It’s a highlight for them, and they don’t want to give it up. But they understand.’

The association has about 1,700 members that attend the concert series every year. Many of them weren’t planning to attend this year, citing COVID worries, but that still left too many members to safely fit inside Mann Hall. The venue can only hold about 500 people with social distancing, Mann says.
