Mariner girls basketball enjoying success after decade

Mariner is 14-3 and ranked No. 2 in the News-Press/Naples Daily News Girls Basketball Power Rankings following an upset of powerhouse Fort Myers last week.

Over the last five years of coaching the Mariner High School girls basketball team, LaTanya Jones was asked several times why she didn’t move on to a more successful program. Despite seven, six, three and five-win seasons, the Mariner alumna never gravitated toward winning programs.

She told her friends in the coaching community and AAU players to just give her five years to jumpstart the Tritons who went 29-238 from the 2006-07 season to the 2018-19 season.
