Thursday Briefing: Heat Index to 102, Palm Coast’s Sports Alliance Re-Launch, Inspired Mic, Primary Elections | FlaglerLive

Palm Coast government Tuesday evening re-launched what had become the county’s moribund Sports Alliance, this time undfer the leadership of city Interim Parks and Recreation Director Lauren Johnston. The Sports Alliance has been around since 2011, with diminishing direction. The re-launched alliance aims to be a one-stop shop both for athletic leagues and for tournaments in Palm Coast and Flagler County. The goal is to better serve community usage while balancing the demand for tournament space. Johnston works closely with Flagler Facilities Directr Heidi Petito in collaborative efforts not seen between the two governments previously. her peers at Flagler County Parks and Recreation. Petito along with Flagler County’s Frank Barbuti both attended Tuesday’s Sports Alliance re-launch, as did Amy Lukasik and Craig Lenniger from Flagler County’s Tourism Development Council. Stephen DeAugustino, athletic director of Flagler Palm Coast High School was in attendance as well. Seated next to him was Zach Rigney, the athletic director at Matanzas High School. Behind the two athletic directors sat City Council Member Eddie Branquinho and City Manager Matthew Morton, showcasing the city’s support. For more information on the Sports Alliance or to get information on how your athletic league or organization can join, contact Lauren Johnston, Interim Parks and Recreation Director at 386-986-2323.
