ST. PETERSBURG ‘ TridentUSA Health Services is laying off 71 employees from its US Laboratories blood-testing center at 5501 49th Street N.

The company, which is based north of Baltimore, said in a notice to the state of Florida that it will close the St. Petersburg office and another lab in Dania Beach by Dec. 31, resulting in a loss of 102 jobs between the two labs. US Laboratories is one of several brands through which TridentUSA does business.

Hurricane Michael coverage: Drone captures extensive damage

The destructive storm made landfall Wednesday afternoon in the Florida Panhandle, with catastrophic 155 mph wind and storm surge creating damage not likely to be realized until the coming hours.

What a difference a few hours makes: Michael is barely hanging onto its hurricane status with 75 mph winds, the National Hurricane Center says. It is moving quickly off to the northeast at 20 mph.
