The 2020 NFL season got underway this weekend and there were eight former USF Bulls on active rosters across the league.

There was some good news, but the one massive takeaway from week one is pretty devastating, as one USF great suffered a season-ending injury.

Mack was supposed to be the feature back for the Colts this season. He was having a great first game too, carrying the ball for 26 yards on four carries plus another 30 yards in the passing game. But before he could really get going Mack suffered an Achilles injury which will keep him out the rest of the season.

The former Bulls is slated to be a free agent in 2021, so this may have been his last action as a Colt after they drafted former Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor in April.

The Bucs had a pretty underwhelming debut considering all the hype that led up to this game. Still, even with an overall sloppy performance, JPP had a highlight. In the third quarter he sacked Drew Brees on a critical third down while the result of the game was still up in the air.

USF tops the Citadel in Jeff Scott’s coaching debut

TAMPA ‘ Saturday evening’s grim skies and steady showers, products of a lurking tropical storm on the gulf’s fringe, seemed fitting opening-night conditions for these stormy times. Typical 2020.

USF weathered it, just as it has the COVID-19 crisis and turbulent social justice movement that could have fragmented any program. To be sure, the Bulls’ emergence from the Raymond James Stadium southwest tunnel Saturday represented a major victory in itself.

The second triumph, not quite as resounding but just as gratifying, played out on a slick field over the next three or so hours.
