TAMPA, Fla. ‘ First year USF football head coach Jeff Scott had exactly one practice with his new team before COVID-19 put the brakes on college sports. That was March 10.

Scott said he was so excited that he woke up at 4 a.m. to get the day started. When he got to the field, he said he wasn’t concerned about on-field details.

“I was just excited to see the smile on their face. See them with a helmet on, and over there having fun,” Scott said. “That, to me, was more important than any of the X’s and O’s and execution and all that.”

This week, three University of Louisville soccer players were dismissed after throwing a party that led to more than 20 positive COVID-19 tests in various programs. USF quarterback Jordan McCloud said he and his Bulls teammates are doing what they can to prevent any outbreaks within the program.

USF Bulls return to football practice with no players in quarantine

TAMPA ‘ On the eve of his team’s first full-squad practice in 150 days, new USF coach Jeff Scott couldn’t resist an 11th-hour tease.

At the end of his ‘state-of-the-union’ address around 9 p.m. Thursday, Scott informed his players that he had a copy of the Bulls’ final, revised 2020 schedule.

‘The mentality is, we play ourselves 12 times a year. It’s not about who you play … it’s about how you play. And when you keep that internal focus, then you don’t play up or down.’

Such a philosophy must buoy the Bulls for the time being. Still uncertain as to the date or opponent for their 2020 opener, Scott and his players took the field on a searing Friday morning at the Morsani Practice Complex. It was USF’s first full practice since March 10, when COVID-19 concerns prompted a campus shutdown.

While DraftKings and nearly the rest of Las Vegas has set USF’s win total 4.5 for the 2020 campaign, ESPN suggests that you should take the over on the Bulls in what seems to be a rebuilding year after USF missed a bowl game for the first time 2014.

‘More excited than anything’: Louisiana Tech opens visibly different fall camp amid COVID-19

RUSTON ‘ Louisiana Tech head football coach Skip Holtz has felt like he’s worn a new and different hat for his team for a few weeks.

And that feeling was emphasized even more as the Bulldogs opened preseason camp Friday morning on the practice fields.

‘I’ve become the COVID-19 coach,’ Holtz told media members following the team’s first fall session. ‘I am overemphasizing. I don’t ever want a player to say that we are not doing everything within our power to protect our players and protect our program to give us a chance to have this opportunity. I want to go the extra mile.
